Shadow and Bone is a 2021 fantasy television series created by Eric Heisserer for Netflix, based on the Grishaverse novels by Leigh Bardugo. The first season combines the storylines of the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the Six of Crows duology. It follows Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), a young, orphaned mapmaker who discovers that she is a Sun Summoner, a Grisha (magic user) with the power to control light. She is the only one who can destroy the Shadow Fold, a dark, terrifying wasteland that divides the country of Ravka. The first season was a critical and commercial success, becoming one of the most-watched shows on Netflix. It was praised for its world-building, its characters, and its performances.
