Overview
Homeland is a 2011 political thriller television series developed by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa for Showtime, based on the Israeli series Prisoners of War. The first season follows Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), a brilliant, bipolar CIA officer who believes that a US Marine, Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), who was held captive by Al-Qaeda for eight years, has been turned by the enemy. She monitors him obsessively. The season is a tense, suspenseful, and psychological thriller, with a focus on the cat-and-mouse game between Carrie and Brody. It was a massive critical and commercial success, winning numerous awards, including six Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress for Claire Danes.
