Overview
Yellowjackets is a 2021 psychological thriller drama television series created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson for Showtime. The series follows a group of teenage girls who survive a plane crash in the remote Ontario wilderness in 1996, and the lives of the survivors 25 years later. The series stars Melanie Lynskey as Shauna, a housewife who is haunted by her past; Tawny Cypress as Taissa, a state senator who is hiding a dark secret; Christina Ricci as Misty, a nurse who is a sociopath; and Juliette Lewis as Natalie, a drug addict who is trying to stay clean. The series also stars Sophie Nélisse as young Shauna, Jasmin Savoy Brown as young Taissa, Sammi Hanratty as young Misty, and Sophie Thatcher as young Natalie. The series explores themes of trauma, survival, and the darkness that lies within everyone. The survivors of the crash resort to cannibalism to stay alive. They also form a cult, worshiping a mysterious force they call the "Wilderness." The present-day survivors are still dealing with the trauma of their experience. They are haunted by the past, and they are being blackmailed by someone who knows their secrets. The series is a slow-burn, atmospheric, and often terrifying thriller. It has been praised for its performances, its writing, and its unique blend of survival drama and psychological horror. Yellowjackets has won numerous awards, including a Peabody Award. A third season is in production.
