Shogun
Overview
You will learn how to bow, pour tea, and commit seppuku before this show is done with you. An English pilot washes up in 1600 Japan and becomes a pawn in Lord Toranaga's deadly chess game. The show commits fully to Japanese language and custom — no hand-holding, no shortcuts. Patient, brutal, and exquisitely made. The finale recontextualizes everything. Television for grown-ups, in the best sense.
