The Inspection
Overview
Based on the director's own life, and it shows in every frame. A young gay Black man, rejected by his mother, joins the Marines seeking the belonging he never had — and finds both cruelty and unexpected grace. Jeremy Pope is extraordinary; his face does half the acting. It's quiet, painful, and ultimately hopeful. One of those small films that stays with you far longer than blockbusters do.
