The Gilded Age Season 1
Overview
The Gilded Age is a 2022 historical drama television series created by Julian Fellowes for HBO, set in New York City in the 1880s. The series follows the conflict between old money and new money. The old money families are the old Dutch aristocracy, who have lived in New York for generations. The new money families are the industrialists, who have made their fortunes in railroads, steel, and oil. The series follows Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson), a young woman who moves to New York after her father dies. She is taken in by her old-money aunts, Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon). She becomes caught between the old world of her aunts and the new world of her neighbors, the Russell family. The series is a lavish, beautifully produced period drama, with a focus on the social customs, the fashion, and the architecture of the era. The first season was a critical and commercial success.
