Euphoria
Overview
Euphoria is a 2019 teen drama television series created by Sam Levinson for HBO, based on the Israeli miniseries of the same name. The series follows a group of high school students as they navigate love, friendship, identity, and trauma. The series is known for its graphic depictions of nudity, sex, violence, and drug use. The series stars Zendaya as Rue Bennett, a drug-addicted teenager who is trying to stay sober. Rue narrates the series, and she is the emotional center of the show. The series also stars Hunter Schafer as Jules Vaughn, a transgender girl who is Rue's best friend and love interest; Jacob Elordi as Nate Jacobs, a violent, manipulative, and closeted jock; Alexa Demie as Maddy Perez, Nate's on-and-off girlfriend; Sydney Sweeney as Cassie Howard, a beautiful, insecure, and boy-crazy teenager; Maude Apatow as Lexi Howard, Cassie's smart, observant sister; Barbie Ferreira as Kat Hernandez, a body-positive, sexually adventurous teenager; and Angus Cloud as Fezco, a kind-hearted drug dealer who is Rue's friend. The series is a raw, unflinching, and often uncomfortable look at the lives of teenagers. It is visually stunning, with dreamlike sequences, vibrant colors, and experimental cinematography. Euphoria has won numerous awards, including three Primetime Emmy Awards for Zendaya. The series has been praised for its performances, its direction, and its honest portrayal of addiction and trauma.
